With our 5 new Autumn trends now available online and in store, the season is well and truly upon us. We invited guest blogger Victoria Jackson in to get an interior perspective. Below she looks at a break down of each trend and it’s key features to give you an insight on how to create these looks in your home.

Back in May, I was invited over to Manchester to visit home and furniture department store, Housing Units. Located just off Junction 22 of the M60, I was surprised I hadn’t discovered this gem previously, and made my way around the store to understand what brands they had on offer and what to expect as a shopper. I was in interiors heaven.

So, when the team invited me back to view the brand new autumn/winter 2019 collections first hand, as well as seeing the store design changes (and try out a delicious lunch in Café 1947 – hello, obviously I’m never turning that down), I was more than happy to drive over, camera in hand.

Pulling together the best brands in store, Housing Units have created five very different and very defined trends to help customers achieve a similar look in their own homes. The beauty of Housing Units is that you could walk into a space and request to buy everything – including the accessories used to style the room set.

First of all, we have Bronx. With a casual yet structured feel, this trend is designed to help you create a living space that could have been transported directly from New York. Expect metal accessories such as vases, lamps and wood finishes, juxtaposed with tactile velvet cushions, and geometric print throws. Think industrial with a touch of luxe.

Botanical Spirit is the second trend to dominate that autumn/winter season for Housing Units. This trend incorporates greenery, from potted plants and succulents, botanical print wallpaper, tropical art, stone and metal accessories. At the heart of Botanical Spirit stands Dakota – a plush velvet sofa which brings a cool vibe to the room. The curves of the sofa are accentuated by its electric blue shade – a real showstopper in the department store.

Moving across the store we’re met with Monte Carlo, the season’s third trend and potentially the most glamorous. Dressed to impress as most are in Monte Carlo, this collection features dark gloss finishes, luxury seating fabrics, statement glass chandeliers and decorative items that wouldn’t look out of place at James Bond’s abode. Featuring a darker palette, this trend is rich in both texture and colour.

Kensington Luxe, meanwhile, is the epitome of traditional luxury. From living room, to dining room, the colour palette is neutral yet enhanced with metallic textures and reflective surfaces. The structured style of the Kensington sofa – which is a modern take on the classic Chesterfield – matches other elements of furniture in this range, from the dining chairs to decorative sculptures.

Finally, we have what is potentially my favourite trend from the season – Montana Natural. Based around the impressive Montana dining table, made from reclaimed timber to give the table a unique appearance, the collection embodies an earthy, natural edge. Combining wood, wicker and linen, the range is complimented by earth-toned crockery, rope lamps and sumptuous faux fur bean bags for the ultimate in relaxation.

With a host of brands under one roof, a café, restaurant and even Christmas Wonderland to inspire your festive shopping, Housing Units is certainly worth a visit if you’re looking to update your home of the new season. Visit the website for opening times and directions.
