Hi there,

I’m Julie Yarwood, and I’m the in-house interior designer at Housing Units. People often ask me for tips on how to decorate their house tastefully at Christmas, as for many people it can be a bit of a minefield. I’ve put together some top tips below that will hopefully help you to create a space that is both festive and stylish this Christmas.

Colours
Pick a colour scheme and use it throughout your house, from the tree all the way to your table decorations. Purple has been a very popular choice for our customers this year, with many combining it with soft pinks. If you want to use your decorations year after year, I’d advise picking neutral colours such as cream and ivory, as these can easily be paired with different accent colours further down the line.

The Tree
For many, the tree is the most important aspect when it comes to decorating their home. Choosing a tree is a very personal decision, and there is no right or wrong tree. I would, however, recommend that if your living space is small that you go for a tall, narrow tree. This will emphasise your room’s height and also help to save on floor space. We have a huge range of trees on offer at Housing Units this year, which you can browse online.

Add Some Fun, Festive Touches
Christmas is a fun time of year, so don’t take your decorations too seriously. You can still have fun in a refined, tasteful way. Seasonal cushions such as this snow scatter cushion are a great way to incorporate Christmas into your general décor, and a garland table runner will bring both fun and festivity to your dining experiences.
